"Kamanian" means hundred-pace snake in Rukai language.In general, Rukai people called it"Amani","Patada"or"Malidran".
In the ancient time of Rukai history,Rukai people hunted wild animals in the mountain.Woods in the mountain aere full of danger.One of the usual risk of the mountain are hundred-pace snakes.This kind of snakes' special way to attack people made Rukai people feel scared.And it made Rukai people respect them.
Because of that, Rukai people thought that their ancestors are born from hundred-pace snakes.
In Rukai totem and decoration,hundred-pace snake are used to symbolize aristocrat.Hundred-pace snake are often seen on the doors,stobs,eaves,carving,pottery,or even clothes.Because Rukai people think that hunderd-pace snake can protect them.

Once upon a time, there was a brave man.He went to a mountain and found a pottery which is as big as a human being's head.And inside the pottery was a snake egg. The man then brought it home and put it down at the corner of his house.
As the time passed, tje snake egg grew bigger and bigger.One day, a boy was born from the egg.His name was Cololo.After he grew up, Cololo married a fairy called Moakaka.They are the ancestor of Rukai.
Because of that ,pottery are regarded as the ancestor of Rukai people.

This is Rukai culture museum.It is located at the left side of Wutai Elementary School.Most of the collections in the building are ancient.even some of them ae antiques.This structure was designed by Mr. Dobanan,who is a famous artist in Ruks tribe.The construction were all made by slabstones

Kaohsiung is the second important city in Taiwna. It's located in the southern Taiwan, so it's really warm. (Asia--Taiwan--Kaohsiung)
There are one river ( The Love River), one hill and a long sandy beach.
Kaohsiung is an industrial city and the harbor's transit trade is also a great important part in our economy. You will find that it's really convenience to come to Kaohsiung. We have an international airport, buses, several harbors and the tube which has almost finished. Besides, it's a beautiful city. It's a bright city full of soft lights and a city people here are energetic to help others.
In a words, Kaohsiung is energetic and hot!!

It is said that Rukai's ancestor is hundred-pace snack,which become a symbal of their ancestor's soul.That's why the tribal people respect them so much and widely used on tatoos,the clothes,embroidery,living and so on.The most popular one is the beautiful mythology of Rukai priceses Ba-Leng.All in all,those mythologies really add clor to the culture of Rukai.

101 building is the new landmark of Taipei,rating as the tallest building of the world.It has various uses,involving negotiable securities,finance,the head office of an enterprize,entertainments,shopping and so on.
Love river is the main one of the rivers in Kaohsiung.It's a good place to relax.You can walk along the riverside ,admiring the beauty of Love river.The activities of Lantern Festival and Dragon Boat Festival take place here.It's good chance to know more about this darling river.

Lily is the tribal flower of Rukai tribe.It symbolizes purity to woman and the number of lily flower a man can wear based on how many animal he hunts.On the other hand,lily has viewed as a representation of ethics and social statuses.

Here are some photos I took and which are symbols of Kaohsiung, the Love River, the mountain and the harbor.
The Love River
The building once was the highest building in the world, which has 85 floors. You can watch the whole beautiful scene of the river from this sight, and also enjoy the whole Kaohsiung landscape on this high building.
On the Love River, there are some boats running. You can buy the tickets at the stand.
The Harbor
You can also see the building from the harbor.
The Mountain
Lots of Taiwanese enjoy mountain-climbing as their recreation.
There are many mountains in Taiwan. This is one of these.

The Rukai tribe are located at the south section of Taiwan 's Central mountain.There about 9000 people in the tribe.And the Rukai tribe is regard as the hometown of clouded leopard.The tribe people don't hurt clouded leopards and around their tribe.Because they feel grateful to those animals. The Rukai tribe is said to be similar to Paiwan tribe.Bcause they live close to each other.And they are deeply influenced by each others.Even Rukai people are hard to compare theri diffirences.

The Rukai tribe has four social statues:Chief、Aristocrat、Trained men and Commoner.Common people have to pay taxes(the harvest ed millet,meat that is hunt or some other food.)to the Chief.The Commoner can’t wear clothes that have embroidery on it---only single blue or grey color.In addition,the lily they wear and their housing exterior are considered as an extension of identity.

Rukai people is good at carving.They carve their scenes of life and Rukai history on wood、slate 、pottory of their crafts.For example,the mythologies about hundred-pace snake is widely sculptured on the slate.And the church in the tribe has a brilliant tribal color as well.
